Divorce Compensation Singapore- What Can You Claim For?

As a divorce lawyer in Singapore, I have had many clients asked me about divorce compensation Singapore.

For instance, if the marriage were to be annulled or if parties were to get a divorce within a short period of time after the ROM date, can the innocent party request for the other party to pay divorce compensation Singapore?

Take for example wedding expenses. Banquet prices rise every year. On average, banquet prices increase by 5% to 10% every year.

In general, each table at a five-star hotel will range from $1,575 (Hilton Singapore) to $2,340 (The St Regis) while each table at a four-star hotel will set you back by between $888 (Grand Mecure Roxy) to $1,398 (Amara Singapore).

Even banquets held in restaurants are expensive these days. For instance, the cost of a table at Peony Jade at Clarke Quay is $1,018.

Many of these venues stipulate a minimum number of tables. Hence, hosting a wedding banquet can set you back by at least $30,000 to $40,000. This is excluding other wedding related expenses such as the wedding photoshoot, rental of gowns, renovation of the matrimonial home and honeymoon holidays.

In general, the Court does not award divorce compensation Singapore. However, if you and your spouse agree on the payment of a sum as divorce compensation Singapore, this can be recorded in the Court order.

The Court is focused on issues involving the divorce/ annulment, division of matrimonial assets, maintenance (alimony) and custody.
