Personally, I feel that a deed of separation is a good way for couples to protect their respective interests. Most couples come to us after extensive discussion. They do not want to prolong matters unnecessarily. They want to agree on key issues involving children, division of assets and maintenance.
Most people execute a deed of separation with the intention of filing for divorce in the future. A deed of separation offer them some certainty for the future.
Recently, Hollywood couple Chris Pratt and Anna Faris announced that their separation. According to Pratt, the couple “tried hard for a long time, and [they’re] really disappointed.”
The couple has a 5-year-old child whom they love very much. For his sake, the couple announced that they want to keep “this situation as private as possible moving forward”.

An amicable settlement is always desired. Out of my many clients, none wants to add to their legal fees and prolong matters. Everyone wants to end their marriage in a fast and cost-effective manner. A deed of separation is a positive step towards that objective.
